Strategic electronic communication for civil society in Bulgaria

27/09/2004 <>

In terms of the project “Strategic electronic communication for civil society in Bulgaria”, finnanced by Mott Foundation, BlueLink Information Network will open up its activities for a broader scope of civil society organizations (CSOs) in a way to strengthen the capacity and to improve the performance of civil society in Bulgaria. BlueLink is the virtual network building up free information exchange for civil society, democracy and sustainable development.

BlueLink will make its services available for CSOs acting in different areas – youth, voluntary exchange, gender, etc. In order to implement this BlueLink led a research of the civil society netscape. Such sectors as: youth, voluntary exchange and women, were already identified in a preliminary research conducted by BlueLink in the period 20 May – 10 June 2002. The research identified CSO sector, which needed most urgently electronic networking services and capacity building.

Based on the needs of CSOs from these sectors BlueLink designed particular strategic electronic communication services for them. The set of pilot services are already available at this portal for the identified target CSO groups.

BlueLink has been open to CSOs from sectors other than environment since its foundation. Organizations dealing with media independence, voluntary youth exchange, have been among BlueLink’s partners and users. Yet, in the first years of its existence the network was building its institutional capacity and profile primarily servicing environmental non-for-profit organizations. This allowed BlueLink to identify the services and expertise required for strengthening the work of its users.

Opening up of the network’s activity will be beneficial for the strengthening of civil society in Bulgaria in general.
